Meet Mack Oner - OCR Kings

Meet Mack Oner

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Mack Oner. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Mack, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.

In 2015, the OCR Kings started making YouTube videos with the intent to help others to succeed in their fitness journey, especially in running and Obstacle Course Racing. We vow to encourage and assist anyone, regardless of age or level of athleticism. Our most meaningful experiences have been giving the community an opportunity to express themselves about their fitness objectives, the trials of attempting to get back in shape, and struggles in overcoming adversity by featuring their stories and videos on our YouTube channel.

Mack, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

Now more than ever, people are feeling isolated, disconnected, sedentary and unhealthy. Most recently, the fallout from the Pandemic has ranged from overeating, to mental health issues and alcoholism. Much of this has stemmed from lockdowns, restricted movement, event cancellations, and perhaps a sense of hopelessness.

Enter the OCR Kings! The OCR Kings’ stated mission is helping others to succeed in their fitness and self-improvement journeys, and give them hope and a sense of community. They will assist anyone, regardless of age, disability, or level of athleticism, to prepare for and run an Obstacle Course Race (OCR).

At its core, OCR is about community. During a race, participants can individually and collectively push their physical and mental limits. Events such as Tough Mudder, Spartan Race, and Rugged Maniac are built on camaraderie and teamwork where overcoming obstacles and stepping outside one’s comfort zone
is the reward.

Extreme athlete hosts MACK (a martial arts instructor) and DAMER (a semi-pro lacrosse player) vow to help people get back on track post COVID (and beyond) by motivating them to conquer their personal challenges and supporting them as they join a worldwide community of over 8 million global members. On their YouTube channel they provide event specific obstacles training tips on obstacles they have recreated in their private facility, and feature running videos on wooded, mountainous trails in order to demonstrate how to prep for a live event.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?

Building an audience on social media is no small task. It takes consistent delivery of sincere, engaging, relevant, and well crafted content. Beyond that, one of the most time consuming, most overlooked, and most rewarding activities is answering comments and engaging directly with the audience. The real key to making authentic connections with people is answering their comments on posts, asking them questions in-turn, and following up on their responses. This is a way to create and maintain authentic relationships in what will ultimately become your community. The results can manifest into real-world interactions, and getting the chance to meet people face to face from around the world with whom you’ve engaged with online is absolutely the most rewarding aspect of being a YouTuber.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?

Our mission is to continue to provide helpful advice to folks looking to run, get fit, and participate in obstacle course racing on YouTube. We also hope to expand and gain more traction in our efforts to bring our methodology and experience in this fitness/adventure niche to television. We are actively pitching our series, and hope to have our pilot episode completed soon.
